Rinse and Repeat: More than Haircare
Share
I’ve always been more than “just a hairdresser.” For years, my chair has been a place where people offload, heal a little, laugh a little, and feel seen.
Clients often joke with me: “You’re my therapist.” “Cheaper than a doctor’s visit (and way more fun).” “I tell you more than I tell my husband.” And my favourite: “Why would I need a counsellor? I have you.”
Not because I give advice, other than the obvious hair advice, but because I listen. And in a world where most of our conversations skim the surface, that kind of listening feels rare. Somewhere between the foils and the blow-dry, the masks drop. People remember what it feels like to be heard.
The truth is, not everyone can sit in my chair every few weeks for ten or fifteen years. That intimacy is hard to translate into the online world. But I’ve been dreaming about bridging it somehow, and I realised that’s where my book Crown Work and the Crown Work Journal come in. They’re extensions of the chair, my way of holding space, even if we’ve never met in person.
“Rinse and repeat.” We’ve all seen it on the back of a shampoo bottle. But after twenty years behind the chair, I see it as more than instructions. It’s a way of life. Because life isn’t about one big transformation where we finally “arrive.” It’s cycles. Rhythms. Letting go, beginning again, softening into presence. On rinse and repeat.
How we care for our hair often reflects how we’re caring for ourselves. If your crown feels neglected, chances are, other parts of you are too. If your crown feels cared for, it often mirrors deeper balance.
It’s like yoga (I love yoga, dont you?) the body and mind are never separate. A good wash, a grounding ritual, a moment of stillness: They’re signals to the nervous system. They’re ways of saying: I’m here. I matter.
That’s the energy I poured into my book Crown Work and the Crown Work Journal. They’re written from the heart but with a lighter touch too, (well, I think im funny) because shadow work doesn’t have to be heavy. It can be playful, imperfect, even a little funny. Just like conversations in the chair.
And it’s the same with Serene Haircare. Our products are clean, organic, and crafted not just for healthy hair but to support the ritual of care itself. When you lather, rinse, and repeat with our Shampoo & Conditioner, you’re not just cleansing your hair. You’re releasing what doesn’t serve you. You’re starting fresh. You’re making space for softness and strength.
When you sit down with your Crown Work Journal, you’re doing the same thing for your inner world. Writing, offloading, witnessing yourself. Creating a rhythm that keeps you grounded, present, and free.
This is just the beginning. I see Crown Work not only as a book and a journal, but as a doorway into deeper conversations, communities, circles, courses, spaces where we can share, listen, and grow together.
Because rinse and repeat is about rhythm. Release. Renewal. And giving ourselves permission to begin again, as many times as it takes. Lets have fun with it.
