Things to Consider Before Making a Hair Appointment
Share
Booking a hair appointment might seem simpl: pick a time, sit in the chair, walk out transformed. But the truth? A great result starts before you ever step foot in the salon.
In my one-to-one Melbourne hair studio, I specialise in colour transformations — the big, bold shifts as well as the subtle refreshes. And over the last 20+ years, one thing has become clear: the best appointments happen when clients come in happy to talk and answer my questions about their hair, prepared, honest, and realistic about what they want.
Here are five things I always encourage my clients to consider before booking a colour appointment with me.
1. Your Lifestyle
Hair should fit into your real life, not the other way around. I’ve had so many busy mums, career women, and creatives in my chair who’ve said, “I just don’t have time.” And that’s okay!
If you don’t love styling every day, we won’t design a cut or colour that demands it. Instead, I’ll create something that grows out beautifully and looks polished with minimal effort. Ive got you.
2. Your Budget
Colour work isn’t a one-off. Platinum blondes, balayage, and vibrant transformations all come with maintenance. In my studio, I’m upfront about the ongoing investment so you don’t end up surprised.
Sometimes that means softening the technique to stretch your appointments out, or pairing your service with Serene Haircare products to help your colour last longer between visits.
3. Your Hair History
Your hair has a story and it matters. If you’ve coloured at home, had extensions, gone from dark to light (or light to dark), or used keratin treatments, I need to know. Oh and if youve ever used Hena thats important.
it’s about protecting your hair. Certain colours and chemicals don’t mix, and I’d rather take a slower, safer route than push your hair past its limits.
4. Your Goals vs. Reality
Bring your inspo pics! I love seeing them. But keep in mind, not every Pinterest blonde or celebrity shade is achievable in one session.
In my studio, I’ll always be real with you about what’s possible for your hair type, texture, and history. Sometimes we’ll map out a transformation over two or three sessions. Healthy, beautiful hair is worth the patience.
5. Your Stylist Fit
Hair is deeply personal. That’s why I’ve created a private, one-to-one space where the focus is entirely on you. No noisy salon floor, no being passed between assistants. Just you and me, taking the time to really listen and create something that feels like you.
If you don’t feel heard or comfortable with your stylist, the end result will never feel right.
Bonus: Don’t Forget Aftercare
Your hair leaves my studio looking incredible, but the real magic happens in how you care for it at home. That’s why I created Serene Haircare, my boutique organic range.
Formulated to protect colour, nourish your scalp, and keep your hair healthy, Serene Haircare is an extension of my chair. It means the care doesn’t stop when you leave the studio — you can maintain that salon-quality feel every day.
Final Word
Before booking your next appointment, ask yourself: Does this fit my lifestyle, my budget, my goals? Do I feel at ease with my stylist?
When you’re clear on these things, the transformation we create together in my Melbourne studio won’t just look amazing it will feel amazing, uplifting and it will feel aligned with your lifestyle.
