Why I’m Starting an “Ask a Hairdresser” Series
Share
Every day online, I see people desperately trying to fix their hair.
Some are trying to grow it.
Some are trying to save damaged blonde.
Some are trying to stop oiliness, frizz, breakage, shedding, fading, or curls that fall flat within an hour.
And?
I completely understand why people feel confused.
The internet is overflowing with hair advice right now.
One video says to oil your scalp overnight.
The next says oil clogs follicles.
One person swears supermarket shampoo is ruining your hair forever.
Another says salon products are just a scam.
Someone recommends purple shampoo for everything while somebody else says never touch it.
Then there’s the DIY colour corrections.
As a hairdresser of more than 20 years, I can usually tell when someone has fallen down an internet rabbit hole before they even sit in my chair.
Sometimes people have spent hundreds trying to “fix” something that actually needed a much simpler approach.
Sometimes they’ve damaged their hair following advice from someone who’s never actually worked behind a basin, touched chemically compromised hair, or dealt with the long term consequences of these trends in real life.
That’s why I decided to start a weekly “Ask a Hairdresser” series.
I want to answer real questions from social media and the Ask a Hairdresser community in a way that feels honest, calm, realistic, and actually helpful.
Not fear-based or trend-chasing or designed to make you panic-buy products. Im so bored of that kind of stuff, arent you?
Just grounded advice from someone who genuinely cares about helping people understand their hair better.
And yes, I do own a haircare line, so I’m aware of my own bias there too. But I’ll always try to explain why I recommend something, and where possible I’ll suggest alternatives too.
Good hair advice should help you make informed decisions, not make you feel dependent or ashamed. Healthy hair usually comes back to consistency more than intensity.
Do the basics well by:
washing properly, protecting from heat, being realistic (but stil fun) about colour goals, staying consistent and learning what your hair needs instead of chasing trends online.
So that’s where this series begins.
If you have a hair question you’ve always wanted answered, send it through.
It could be about scalp health, hair growth, colouring, curls, extensions, breakage, wedding hair, oily roots, thinning, heat styling, product overwhelm anything you want. There’s a good chance somebody else is wondering the exact same thing.
